Earlier this month some members of the Uganda Education team headed to Imvepi Refugee Settlement in the West Nile region to deliver a week long workshop to 29 Primary School teachers who work in schools in the local area. The content of the training was widely inspired by the introductory training pack of an extensive 5-module programme called Teachers for Teachers. 
The course has been developed by the Teachers in Crisis Contexts Working Group (TICCWG) in cooperation with consultants and a team of graduate students at Teachers College, Columbia University. This training is designed with refugee teachers in mind, particularly those who might be unqualified or under-qualified and working in an emergency context. It was a valuable week of sharing skills and knowledge with the group which consisted of representatives from most of the 12 primary schools based in Imvepi, as well as some of the community volunteers who Xavier Project are working in partnership with on a community hub launching soon in the settlement. The course equipped the teachers with new pedagogical skills, modern approaches in the teaching of literacy and encouraging the group to work through some of the professional challenges they face in the camp. We were so proud to work with this group and observe the progress that was made throughout the course of the week. We hope this will be the first in a series of trainings we can offer in Imvepi to improve the quality of education for young refugees.
