Web Developer job vacancy in Nairobi, Kenya

We're looking for a Web Developer to help us build out and manage a platform that showcases the potential of refugee-led organisations and connects them to international donors, partners, opportunities and resources.

Role: Web Developer
Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Salary:This role has a starting salary of 100,000 KES gross per month

About Xavier Project

Xavier Project is a UK-registered charity that supports refugees in Kenya and Uganda. The main focus of our work is in supporting refugee-led organisations: these are grassroots groups of varying sizes that are at the front line of their communities’ aid and development. In contrast to big international NGOs and UN organisations that dominate the sector at large, these refugee-led organisations are embedded within refugee communities and know their needs better than anyone else.

About the Role

Xavier Project is looking for a Web Developer to help us build out and manage www.reframe.network — a platform that showcases the potential of these refugee-led organisations and connects them to international donors, partners, opportunities and resources.

You’ll work alongside our CTO as well as the Communications team to spearhead a website that has the potential to transform the way aid and development works. You’ll also be part of a broader team of colleagues across Kenya, Uganda and the UK in an INGO at the cutting edge of its sector.

Learning will be a big part of this role: we do not expect you to come to us as a fully-formed full-stack developer: instead, your time with us will be a continuous learning experience that will hone your skills in all aspects of web development and deployment. Instead of knowledge, we are looking for someone with clear talent and a willingness to learn.

About You

We’re looking for someone who loves coding and learning new technologies. You’re an open-minded generalist, eager to tinker with new languages, frameworks and skillsets for the fun of it.

You’d ideally have the following specific skills:

  • A decent knowledge of Javascript (vanilla) and experience using it to build web application front-ends.
  • HTML and CSS.
  • Experience using GitHub and a vibrant GitHub profile that demonstrates your skills in all the above.

Any of the additional skills/experience are not necessary but would be a bonus:

  • Building front-ends with Javascript frameworks like React, Vue etc.
  • Building back-ends of any kind, but particularly with PHP and MySQL/MariaDB (Reframe currently uses the LAMP stack).
  • Deploying web apps on AWS or other cloud providers, or on BaaS services like Heroku.
  • Building sites with WordPress.
  • Generalised coding skills unrelated to web development (please surprise us!)

To Apply

Please send your CV and GitHub profile along with a brief covering email to jobs@xavierproject.org
