Sponsor a ‘house’ and support us in our mission in 2019

Some of our top achieving students in Kenya NEED YOUR SUPPORT. Due to funding cuts we are unable to continue to pay for their school fees for the year ahead. These are students who are in the TOP 1.5% of their years in academic performance. Read more about how you, your friends and family can get involved.

In Nairobi, we have a group of NINE exceptional students who need sponsorship to secure their places into secondary school this year. These are students who are so far excelling in their education – receiving 80% and over in exams – but lack the support to continue. These students need to register for school before the end of this month or they risk missing out on the whole school year.

School fees are expensive in Kenya and are a significant barrier to children accessing quality education, especially secondary level. At Xavier Project we provide sponsorship to the most promising students to ensure they can fulfil their potential and work towards better futures.

For as little as £5 per month you could contribute to their fees or for £50 per month you could cover all the costs for one student through our JustGiving page. Even better would be to bring together your friends, family or local community groups into a House Sponsorship group – see more details below.

Please let’s give these bright, young students the opportunity to an education that they deserve. We want every child to have the opportunity to fulfil their dreams, just like Maximilla.

HOUSE SPONSORSHIP explained…

We are looking for groups – friends, families, schools, churches, societies – to team together to take on the sponsorship of a ‘house’ of students for the new school year.

Just as schools in the UK divide students into houses, at Xavier Project we work with our sponsored children to a house system – each house has five secondary pupils. We believe that this helps create a sense of solidarity amongst the students and allows the to support each other through shared challenges at school. For £250 a month the five students will be supported with school fees, school meals, school trips, scholastic materials and uniforms. They will also have access to additional learning support through summer camps and online learning assessments.

Whether there are five or 25 of you sponsoring the house you will all be making an invaluable contribution to the improve the rights and protection of these young refugees. In return you will receive regular updates on the progress of your hours, and you can name the house after your group.

Each house is mentored by a Xavier Project staff member to ensure that each child’s education is being closely monitored and to provide counsel where required. The house mentor will personally update you with progress reports, pictures and messages from the students and be your point of contact.
