Xavier Project representatives recently had the pleasure of being invited to a dinner in Nairobi to celebrate Peter Tabichi, the recipient of the 2019 Varkey Foundation Global Teacher of the Year award and $1million prize money. Members of the team were able to meet Peter and hear from the inspirational man himself.

Peter teaches science at Keriko mixed day secondary school in Nakuru, Kenya. He feels the lack of facilities at his school are a real obstacle to education. Therefore, Peter has pledged that he will use his prize money to attempt to improve the infrastructure of his school and the immediate surrounding area. He believes that education, in particular science, will enable the youth of today to find the solutions to the issues Africa is facing. Peter hopes to use this award as a platform from which he can advocate for better change and represent his fellow teachers and their students.

Congratulations to Peter for winning this prestigious award. We hope that teachers like Peter will continue to strive for a better standard of education, not only in Kenya but worldwide. The Varkey Foundation is doing fantastic work to keep inspirational teachers like Peter in the spotlight and share these motivational stories with others.
