In 2017 we were proud to receive support from Electric Aid for our hub in Rwamwanja refugee settlement in South West Uganda. The funding has allowed us to install solar panels, 12 computers and buy a laptop for teachers to facilitate ICT classes. The very first computer class started in the hub last week. This place is the first computer training centre for refugees in the settlement.

Xavier Project started working in Rwamwanja refugee settlement in 2016. The settlement has an estimated refugee population of 80,000, a majority of whom are young people. In 2017, with support from SPICMA, Xavier Project commenced the construction of the community hub in the settlement in conjunction with Tomorrow Vijana, the refugee community of Rwamwanja and Directorate of Refugees, Office of Prime Minister. The hub was completed in February 2018.

Community Approach Model
Xavier Project works with Tomorrow Vijana, a refugee youth community organisation, which was founded by a group of young Congolese refugees. For years this group had been running English language courses in a field under a tree in the settlement. Tomorrow Vijana team now runs and manages the hub on a daily basis, while Xavier Project gives capacity building and development, infrastructure and institutional support.

Programmes
The hub is open 6 days a week from 8.30 am to 6pm. Currently there are 3 programmes running in the Rwamwanja hub. These are English For Adults, Functional Adult Literacy and Computer Training. There are currently 34 English learners and 33 computer learners attending the hub daily.
